After a car accident puts Shauna McAllister in a coma and wipes out six months of her memory, she returns to her childhood home to recover, but her arrival is fraught with confusion. Her estranged father, a senator bidding on the White House, and her abusive stepmother blame Shauna for the tragedy, which has left her beloved brother severely brain damaged.
Leaning on Wayne Spade, a forgotten but hopeful lover who stays by her side, Shauna tries to sort out what happened that night by jarring her memory to life. Instead, she acquires a mysterious mental ability that will either lead her to truth or get her killed by the people trying to hide it. In this blind game of cat and mouse that states even the darkest memories in the face, Shauna is sure of only one thing: if she remembers, she dies.

Recently I read this book. It is a suspense thriller. You won't want to put this book down.
Ok here is what other people are saying about Kiss from CBD:
Reviewed by Betty Maurer (Montgomery, AL), April 09, 2009

A typical Dekker -- fast-paced, exciting, with many plot twists! A wonderful read, and one I wold heartily recommend. Mr. Dekker is an incredibly gifted writer, one of my favorites, and I eagerly await eacj new work from his pen.

5 out of 5 starsReviewed by William Jaco (Wood River, IL), March 30, 2009

The story line was very good. Totally different from his other books. I recommend this book to everyone. My daughter picked it up and it was the first book by Ted she had read. She just thrilled with it.

5 out of 5 starsReviewed by Jennifer Jones (Greenville, SC), March 29, 2009

I have read many Ted Dekker novels, but this one is definitely one of my favorites! Kiss is a story about a young woman, Shauna, struggling to regain memories from the previous 6 months – memories, which if they return, may get her killed. Shauna realizes a few weeks after waking up from a horrible car accident that she has gained the ability to steal memories from other people. She uses this ability to help her in her search for the truth about what really happened the night of her accident, and why all of the people around her, including her loving boyfriend, want her to forget it. For the first half of the book, it is unclear who the good guys and bad guys are, which only makes it that much more exciting! It usually takes me a week or so to finish a novel, but after I got a few chapters into this one I couldn’t put it down! Finished in 1 day! I love how the novel ends – I won’t give it away though. I love stories that end with a sense of closure for all of the subplots as well. Packed full of suspense, romance, action and drama! I hope that Dekker and Healy team up for many more novels – it seems like she gave a more romantic side to his writing.

5 out of 5 starsReviewed by Benjamin Allison (York, Pennsylvania), March 26, 2009

When I first heard about Kiss, my impression was slightly skeptical - I thought it might just be another cute amnesia story with an overused plot. But now that I have read the book, I realize I could not have been more wrong. Unlike other stories that use amnesia, this one has a twist: main character Shauna McAllister not only loses six months of her memory, but finds that she has the ability to steal them from others as well. She must then find a way to rebuild her life using others' memories all while trying to evade some unknown enemy who she suspects caused her the car accident that brought on her amnesia in the first place. Whoever thought of Ted and Erin joining forces to write a novel was a genius. Kiss has instantly become one of my favorite of Ted's books. "Heart pounding meets heart warming" really does a great job of summarizing this book. Not only did the plot have some of the great twists and turns that Ted is famous for, but the story itself seemed to come to life as I read it. The vivid descriptions and imagery my made me feel as I had Shauna's ability and was reliving her memories in my own imagination. Whether you've been a fan of Dekker for years or if Kiss will be your first, you are going to love this book.

Publisher's Weekly
Master of evangelical Christian suspense, Dekker (Thr3e; Blink; Skin) joins first-time author Healy in this thriller, no less fast-moving than the Christy Award–winning author's solo prose, but also more gripping as it plunges into the life of a woman with frayed and painful family relationships. When a tragic auto accident leaves Shauna McAllister's brother brain-damaged and erases her recent memories, she discovers she has a paranormal ability to steal memories from others, a capability that will either get her killed or unveil hidden sides of the very people she thought she could trust. Against this background, she attempts to uncover the ugly truth about her father's dark secrets and to upend his run for president of the United States. True to Dekker's penchant for twists that keep you guessing till the very last page, Kiss also attempts to return to snappier dialogue and more logical plotting than Skin. A psychological suspense thriller that shines light into black-market child trafficking, Dekker's latest will satisfy Christian fiction lovers who want complex characters and who believe in the stark realities of true good and heinous evil. (Jan.)Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information.

Ok so if you are looking for a suspense thriller take a look at this book. It is excellent. I give it five smileys.---Louise

A Labyrinth is a complicated maze with an entry point and a center. In Greek mythology labyrinth harbored monsters. In some ancient cultures a person would walk a labyrinth for spiritual insight and meditation.

Since the disappearance of her father when she was young, Tessa associated labyrinths with him. She is haunted by nightmares of monsters and is very obsessed with creating labyrinths. The disappearance of her father has made her very vulnerable and needy. In the story she is constantly speaking with her psychologist.
Smith Chandler is Tessa old boyfriend. They attended college together but Tessa’s neediness and constant needing reassurance drove him away. Six years later their path’s meet again. Smith Chandler wants Tessa to help him with a project. Smith would redesign a mansion for Rumor Gaston and Tessa would landscape and recreate an old labyrinth.

This story is full of suspense and mystery. Something mysterious and almost haunting is happening to the property. Things are disappearing, like tools, books, and food. Tessa begins to wonder if the monsters in her dreams are coming to life.

In the story Smith is thought to have been murdered and the police are blaming Tessa. The Police was sure after hearing her crazy story and speaking with her psychologist, that Tessa had murdered Smith Chandler.

This story is a suspense thriller with the reader wondering at every turn what is going to happen next. It has humor, romance, and most importantly you’ll see at the end Gods love which is always with us. At the end, Tessa and the reader will discover that God never leaves us during our hardest times and that God’s love and care will always shine through.

This is an excellent book and I give it five out five smileys.

Here is what others are saying about The Edge of Recall:
From Readers of Amazon of 18 reviews, 12 people gave this story 5 stars and 6 people gave it 4 stars. Here is what they said:

July 5, 2008
By Kay S. Walsh (Harrisonburg, VA United States) - See all my reviews

Tessa is a landscape architect obsessed with labyrinths. She is drawn to the ruins of an intriguing labyrinth; however, to follow her passion, she must work with a man she once loved but who ultimately betrayed her.
The Edge of Recall may be of the genre "contemporary romantic suspense" but it borders on being a thriller. Until the end, it's unclear as to who should be wearing the white hats and who deserves the black.
If you are looking for a great read, pick this one up. To fully explore the depth of the messages hidden within this book, consider more than one reading. You'll want it on your bookshelf.
Also, thanks to the author for the setting in Maryland. That's refreshing!

August 13, 2008
By Chris H. "soblessed" (,OH,U.S.A.) -

This was my first book by this author, and I am very pleased to say that I am impressed with her writing skills.
When I first read here that the story involved a job to recreate an ancient labyrinth by a female landscape architect(Tessa Young),I was immediately intrigued, though I must confess my initial ignorance of the difference between a labyrinth and a maze.I was thinking 'maze',but it was very interesting to be taught the difference. I thought the history and religious significance of a labyrinth at a certain monastery was fascinating.I enjoyed reading all the info on labyrinths and mazes, and to use this as a basis for the background story of a Christian thriller was such a great idea.
There was a lot of suspense in this book in not knowing who Tessa could/should trust, plus wondering about her own psychological problems. (After all, because of recurring nightmares, she has been in therapy for years!)
This story is also very creepy/spooky,and there are quite a few twist and turns, that will keep you guessing until the end,and the last quarter or third of the book really blew me away! Very, very unexpected, and different.
I have to say that it certainly had a original theme in my reading experience, because I've never read anything like it,and that made it even more of an exciting read.
Excellent writing, and I will be reading much more of her work. Can't wait to read Freefall and Halos:A Novel by her, then start on some of her historical romances.
If you enjoy Christian Suspense/Thrillers,you will not be disappointed in this book!

August 20, 2008
By Jennie "cooljennie2000"

What can I say about this book that the other readers haven't? I loved the research done on the labyrinths. I have never known about labyrinths as being part of a spiritual journey to meet God in the middle. By that way Tessa Young thought to seek and find the God that seemingly has eluded her. When Smith Chandler, the man whom she has vowed to forget calls her up with an offer of a lifetime. An exquisite labyrinth in Maryland owned by wealthy clients. The memories locked away in the edge of recall resurface and haunts her. She also finds herself falling once again for the handsome architect who has betrayed her. One night while working in the labyrinth, Smith and Tessa are attacked and Tessa's nightmare begins again.
What an incredibly awesome story. The research done was amazing and clearly thorough. I've learned so much by reading this book. I have read every one of Kristen's stories and this one happens to be one of my favourites by her. I do hope that she will be writing for many more years. I look forward to her next story.

If you are still wondering about this book check out these other websites:

http://www.curledup.com/edgecall.htm

http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=228315&event=CFN

http://www.faithfulreader.com/reviews/9780764228315.asp

http://cherryblossommj.blogspot.com/2008/07/edge-of-recall-by-kristen-heitzmann_09.html

http://www.bakerpublishinggroup.com/ME2/Audiences/dirmod.asp?
sid=0477683E4046471488BD7BAC8DCFB004&nm=&type=PubCom&mod=PubComProductCatalog&mid=BF1316AF9E334B7BA1C33CB61CF48A4E&AudId=2CE59DBC134644E48BA21637B1D727C3&tier=3&id=767B5F3418B346D498DBF1904B325F17

Happy Reading!

Louise
